Since the installation in 1975, the system has reduced traffic deaths by 17 percent, accidents by 9.4, travel time in Osaka by 17 percent, time at stop lights by 33 percent and exhaust gases by over one million kiloliters(over 35 million cubic feet)a year. The system cost 40 million dollars to install, but according to the Osaka Prefectural Police, it has already saved drivers 844 million in time that can be devoted to economic activities.
