A rock concert held in a public space. Kids wear Led Zepline T-shirts, leather jackets, and jeans. It all happened so fast; Gorbachev’s glasnost lifted the lid off of the rock underground in 1986. Skeptics suggest that this liberalization is ultimately designed to coax alienated youth back into the Soviet ideology.

Life is a fantasy for Siegfried & Roy, the German born “master illusionists” whose stage spectacular, “Beyond Belief,” has been headlining in Las Vegas’ Frontier Hotel since 1981. On May 2nd, Day in the Life photographer, Francois Robert, visited the “Wizards of Joy” at their nearby $10 million home, “Jungle Palace,” where the attractions included two rare white tigers (white with black stripes), an even rarer snow white tiger (completely white with ice blue eyes), and a fancy bit of levitation.
Robert (pronounced row-bear) says, “After a long negotiation with their manager, we arrived at Siegfried & Roy’s well protected mansion and were admitted along with a local television crew. I wanted to shoot the levitation over water, and, being master showmen, they agreed to do it in the tiger pen. As we discussed earlier, I set up my cameras and then left the scene. When they called us back twenty-five minutes later, Roy was already levitating. I never found out how they did it, but in a way, I’m glad. I’d rather believe there’s still some magic in the world. According to Manouso Manos, instructor at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco, the Rope Headstand”clears the brain and combs the mind.” Student Patricia Sullivan – a master of the intricate toe grip- swears by the exercise, which they say correctly aligns the skeleton. But Manos is sparing with his praise. “Yoga is a continual learning process,” he says. Photo: Alon Reininger

The US Golfing Association makes sure that new gear meets their stringent standards.
As the USGA Research and Test Center in New Jersey, cameras record the light that bounces off the 28 reflectors on Bryan Marks’ body as he swings. The information gathered from the cameras is used to render a 3D model, which is used to measure the force the club places on the body’s joints-information needed for ant new club seeking the USGA seal of approval. Before purchasing the latest iron, players might want to heed the words of Frank Thomas, director of the test lab; “You can’t buy your game. With all of our high tech testing we’ve found that you’re much better off practicing than buying a new piece of equipment. Photo: Stephanie Maze
